EU consultation launched: researchers are to help shape Europe's AI strategy in science

11/04/2025

The European Commission is calling on researchers and innovators to help shape the future AI strategy in science. Two consultations – a call for evidence and a targeted questionnaire – are open until 5 June 2025. The aim is to create a European research landscape that uses artificial intelligence responsibly to accelerate scientific progress.

Strengthening science, securing competitiveness

‘We want an AI strategy that serves science – and thus strengthens Europe's innovative capacity,’ says Ekaterina Zaharieva, European Commissioner for Start-ups, Research and Innovation. The new strategy should make it easier for researchers across the EU to use AI technologies – for example in climate research, health sciences, materials science or medical diagnostics.

Europe must take the lead in AI

The Commission is committed to the responsible use of generative AI – and to this end publishes updated guidelines for research and innovation. It underlines that those who set the pace in AI will also shape the future of science, the economy and society.

Have your say now – research needs your voice

The consultations are part of the European Research Strategy for Artificial Intelligence. The aim to ensure that the development and application of AI is at the service of science – in an open, transparent and innovation-friendly way. Europe's researchers are are invited to take part and actively shape the change.

Both consultations, the call for comments and the targeted questionnaire, will run until 5 June 2025.
