EU Commission launches ‘New European Bauhaus Facility’ 2025-2027 – funding for sustainable urban development
The NEB Facility is divided into two key components:
- a research and innovation (R&I) component to develop new ideas
- and a deployment component to implement and scale up these solutions.
Funding will be provided through two pillars of the 2025-2027 multi-annual budget support. The R&I component will be integrated into Horizon Europe as a cross-cluster instrument with an annual budget of around €120 million.
NEB Facility promotes sustainable and inclusive design in Europe
The NEB Facility 2025–2027 offers a wide range of funding opportunities for projects that transform neighbourhoods through sustainable, aesthetic and inclusive design. It supports basic research, testing and demonstration projects and is funded under Horizon Europe.
Areas of focus include:
- energy efficient construction
- green mobility
- circular economy
- social and civic participation
Roadmap for implementation: investing in the European Green Deal
The recently published ‘Roadmap for the New European Bauhaus Facility’ serves as a framework for targeted implementation in the period 2025–2027. Around 15 pilot projects are planned that will make the European Green Deal a tangible experience – for example, through the redesign of public spaces or innovative housing concepts.
Rethinking architecture: sustainability, beauty and inclusion
The approach of the New European Bauhaus Facility goes beyond classical architecture: it focuses on the principles of sustainability, beauty and inclusion as guidelines for future European regional development. The roadmap also places particular emphasis on creative cooperation with cities, NGOs and companies, as well as on active citizen participation.
Next steps: funding calls for 2025
The next important step is the publication of the NEB Facility Calls 2025. Project promoters, municipalities, research institutes and companies are encouraged to find out about the conditions for participation and funding opportunities as early as possible.
