UAS4EUROPE, the network of European Universities of Applied Sciences (UAS), welcomes the Hochschulen für Angewandte Wissenschaften Baden-Württemberg e.V. (HAW BW e.V.; Universities of Applied Sciences Baden-Württemberg, Germany) as a new member. Jean-Eric Paquet, Director-General of Research and Innovation at the European Commission, also attended the last meeting of the presidents of UAS4EUROPE members on 10 November 2020, highlighting the important role of UAS in the European Research Area.

With the European Green Deal (EGD), Europe aims to become the world's first climate-neutral continent by 2050. To this end, in 2020 and 2021, the European Commission will present numerous further measures for a comprehensive growth strategy of a climate-neutral and resource-efficient European economy, which will be cost-effective and socially balanced at the same time. From 27 – 28 October 2020, the Digital Conference on Industrial Technologies 2020 will take place. It will offer participants the opportunity to join a platform for stakeholders from research organisations, industry and policy-making to discuss future trends, technological challenges and the further steps required in order to shape and strengthen future European industrial and research policy in the field of key enabling technologies such as nanotechnologies, advanced materials, biotechnology and advanced manufacturing under the considerations of socially fair transition to a sustainable and green economy.

Since the beginning of July 2020, the Bavarian Research Alliance (BayFOR) has been home to a new Scientific Coordination Office (WKS) which has been tasked with strengthening scientific and technical cooperation between Bavaria and Africa.

The National Research Council (NRC) of Canada and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) will provide access to public funding for joint Canadian-German R&D projects through Germany´s largest innovation programme for small and medium-sized enterprises (ZIM), and through the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP) in Canada. The aim is to develop innovative technical products, services or processes with a strong market potential. The submission deadline is 30 June 2020.
