AI Excellence in Europe: €50 million to bring world-class researchers together

The European Commission has launched its call to develop a vibrant European Network of Artificial Intelligence Excellence Centres. Proposals can be submitted until 13 November 2019 to finance projects under the Horizon 2020 Work Programme 2018-2020.

Horizon 2020: Commission to invest €11 billion in new ways to address societal challenges and boost jobs and growth

Today the European Commission announced how it will spend the last and biggest annual share of €11 billion of the EU research and innovation funding programme Horizon 2020. In this final year the Commission will focus on fewer and crucial topics such as climate change, clean energy, plastics, cybersecurity and the digital economy, supporting further the Commission's political priorities.

EU Project CIRCULAR FLOORING enables environmentally friendly recycling of post-consumer PVC floor coverings

Freising, Germany – End-of-life flexible PVC floor coverings potentially contain ‘legacy plasticizers’ which may no longer be used today for reasons of consumer protection and which in the meantime have been replaced in the EU by safer alternatives. State-of-the-art recycling of such flooring with recovery of PVC in virgin-like quality therefore requires a technically sophisticated separation of these ‘legacy plasticizers’. The new EU project CIRCULAR FLOORING will meet this challenge with the innovative plastics recycling process CreaSolv®1, which is patented by the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging IVV.

Circular Economy: EU Project MOVECO presents Innovation Award and Transnational Strategy for Circular Economy

Munich – On 14 May, 2019, the EU-funded project MOVECO held its closing conference at the Ars Electronica Center in Linz under the motto “The Danube goes circular”. About 70 participants from ten countries in the Danube region took the opportunity to exchange views on the circular economy. Project results from MOVECO were presented, including a transnational strategy for the circular economy in the Danube region as well as a travelling, mobile exhibition on this topic. The conference culminated in an awards ceremony in which the project partners announced the winners of MOVECO’s Innovation Award.

EU budget: Adding €100 million for research and student mobility programmes in 2019

Following up on the agreement between the European Parliament and the Council on the EU's 2019 budget, the European Commission is today proposing to add €100 million to the EU's flagship programmes Horizon 2020 and Erasmus +. This additional money will help strengthen the EU response to key challenges such as climate change and further adapting the education sector to the needs of the labour market.
