The project looks at the manifestations of capitalistic entrepreneurial action in Dalian and Shanghai including their subjective and objective foundations. The central questions involved are which entrepreneurial image predominates in China (concept of other), how the Chinese entrepreneur sees himself (concept of self), and how the Chinese entrepreneur in the present economic, political, and social process of transformation in China plans, executes, and as-sesses his economic action. One important aim is to help representatives of German busi-nesses understand the emerging institutionalization of private enterprise in China thus encour-age successful cooperation.
