Aim of the project: A new technology of multidimensional hierarchical clustering/hierarchy interleaving (MHC/HI) that has been applied for European patent already shall be integrated into TransBase HyperCube which is a relational DBMS already providing multidimensional indexing. Hierarchy operations like drill-down shall be optimized with respect to the underlying physical multidimensional data model. The technology shall be applied to two significant application domains: in the retail industries huge data warehouses have to be analyzed continuously to reflect any changes quickly for business decisions; geographical information systems deal with data that is organized hierarchically by geographic categories. The graphical front-end tool VisualMine is enhanced for providing an easy-to-use human interface for navigation and analysis of those databases so that OLAP tools find a wider applicability.
