Student Network Meeting 2019

On 24 January, 2019, the annual ‘’Bayern-Québec Student Network Meeting’’ took place at the invitation of WKS. In attendance were master and doctoral students who completed a research stay in Québec supported by the WKS mobility support programmes during 2017 and 2018.

The aim of the meeting was for the students to exchange experiences about their time in Québec and afterwards. In seven lectures followed by a Q&A session, students from the fields of engineering, geography, and cultural studies presented their research results and gave indications of the insights gained, challenges overcome, and cultural differences experienced. The meeting took place at the Leibniz Computing Centre of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences (LRZ) in Garching, Germany. The LRZ supports Bavarian universities and scientific institutions with IT services and is a renowned location for information technology and supercomputing. During the network meeting, the students had the opportunity to observe a demonstration in the Virtual Reality and Visualisation Centre (V2C) and to visit one of the world's fastest supercomputers, the SuperMUC.
The guest of honour was Madame Nadine Girault, Québec Minister for International Relations and Francophonie. In dialogue with the students, Mme. Girault was able to ascertain the importance of a research stay in Québec and learn more about the individual bilateral projects between Bavaria and Québec. The cooperation between Bavaria and Québec will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2019.
