*Bavaria*Israel*Workshop: EU Mission "A Soil Deal for Europe" (8 May 2024)
Life on Earth depends on healthy soils. Soil is the foundation of our food systems. It provides clean water and habitats for biodiversity while contributing to climate resilience. It supports our cultural heritage and landscapes and is the basis of our economy and prosperity. However, it is estimated that up to 70% of EU soils are unhealthy. The EU Mission “A Soil Deal for Europe” leads the transition towards healthy soils by funding an ambitious research and innovation programme with a strong social science component and putting in place an effective network of 100 living labs and lighthouses to co-create knowledge, test solutions and demonstrate their value in real-life conditions. For 2024, the EU Mission “A Soil Deal for Europe” places a total budget of about 134.50 Mio. EUR for a broad range of R&I projects.
This workshop on selected topics from the EU mission “A Soil Deal for Europe” invites researchers from academia and R&D driven industry from Bavaria, Israel and other EU countries to explore new cooperation and network opportunities and to get latest insights into the new topics of the EU Mission “A soil deal for Europe”. The event is organized by experts of the Bavarian Research Alliance (BayFOR) and the Israel-Europe R&I Directorate (ISERD).
Participants are asked to choose one of the following workshops which will take place in parallel:
- Breakout Session 1: HORIZON-MISS-2024-SOIL-01-01: Co-creating solutions for soil health in Living Labs & HORIZON-MISS-2024-SOIL-01-02: Living Labs in urban areas for healthy soils
- Breakout Session 2: HORIZON-MISS-2024-SOIL-01-05: Soil health, pollinators and key ecosystem functions
- Breakout Session 3: HORIZON-MISS-2024-SOIL-01-06: Harnessing the multifunctional potential of soil biodiversity for healthy cropping systems
What to expect? Among others, the workshop will address following questions: What are the goals and benefits of this EU Mission? How to compose a convincing HEU-proposal and how to get the proposal writing process started? Where to find cooperation partners and how to build a competitive consortium? These and further questions will be addressed in our workshop session on selected topics of the EU-Mission “A Soil Deal for Europe”.
Pitch Presentation: All participants are asked to present their expertise and/or project idea in a short pitch (max. 3 minutes / 3 slides). In order to have a fruitful discussion during the breakout sessions, the number of pitch presentations is limited to max. 10 per session. Preferences are given to those who have a concrete project idea and intend to contribute to a research proposal either as a coordinator or as partner.
The event is free of charge.
